Girrrrls!

Jess @Breaking New Grounds-Portsmouth

Growing up Jess and I used to hear our parents call out "girls!" in that tone of voice that would have most children stop dead in their tracks in fear of punishment or time out. In our situation, their call was often due to the fact that we hadn't emerged from playing in the basement or some other play room for hours on end. We had creative ways of entertaining ourselves.

I remember hammering nails into wooden scraps that our Vavo had accumulated throughout the years. Numerous little houses and boats were crafted and topped with cheap christmas ribbon that we then curled using the edge of a scissor blade. It's one of those vivid memories that if I think about it hard enough brings me back to that moment in time and the smell of glue and saw dust fills the air.

Thanks to her hubby, Jess and I were able to spend some very quality kid-less time together this past weekend. We reflected on the particular "girls!" yell/call and of course it made us giggle for a while. It would be fun to go back to those innocent, worry free days. We are so fortunate that in time, her children will be sharing some similar experiences. Instead of yelling "girls!", we will be calling out "boyyys!" and wondering what Marcus and Lucas are doing.

I couldn't ask for a better cousin. <3

  1. Really?? You should have warned me that I would need a tissue...writing with tears in my eyes! I love you and I love our memories of our childhood. I can not wait until we can see our kids doing the same crazy things we did! Can't wait for our next girls day...
