As I was searching Urban Outfitters for some new sheets I came across this pillow! These are the same exact pillows that my Vavo had in her basement. Jess and I used to arrange these pillows on the floor and use them as leaping stones so the alligators couldn't get us. Fall off the pillow and you get eaten, not only by the alligators, but by Vavo too. She used to get so mad at us for playing with the pillows although deep down I think she was wishing she could join in on the fun.
I have such fond memories of that basement. Although there was a closet full of toys, we always seemed to play with ordinary objects. We pretty much used this activity rotation:
- Pillow jumping-mentioned above
- Wood working or "play wood" (sounds bad but it wasnt). In the basement was a room that housed a garage. You could find anything and everything. There were wooden scraps, hammers, mallets, nails, screws, ribbon, you name it, it was in there. Our wood crafts always turned out the same. They consisted of one or more pieces of wood with HUGE nails protruding from the top and completed by fastening various colored ribbons to each of the nails.
- Bar tender. This activity usually lasted the least amount of time. We quickly became bored because we were only aloud to make shirley temples and the jar of cherries only lasted so long.
- Raid Vavos office. He had all sorts of gems in there. There were ink pads, perfectly sharpened pencils, all sorts of paper, glue, staplers of all kinds. For some reason there was also two desks. So as Vavo sat at his desk reading (or trying to), Jess and I shared the other one.
This made me smile and brought a little tear to my eye...
